“How To Be A Good Mentor”?

There are multiple documents on how to write good bugs, documents on how to release software, and even documents on what to call your computer, both serious and humourous.

But has anyone written a document on how to be a good mentor to a contributor who has joined a free software project? I think one is sorely needed. Once we’ve picked the people we want as quickly as possible, it would be good if everyone knew the best ways to encourage them…

Yes, there must be, because I definitly know people who must have read them. All! ;)

  2. In what way would it be diffrent to be a good mentor to a contributor who has joined a free software project, than beeing a mentor to a person doing any other creative (voluntered) work?
Unfortunaly there is no “man” for humans, so good dialog and faith get to be your tools.

Oh and; please write about this. Good mentors don’t grow on trees.

    Good luck

  3. Look for good team leaders. The job of the team leader is approximately that – helping the team members to do the good work. One sign of a poor team leader is that he or she is doing too much of the core work, and the team doesn’t know what to do.
