Echoing the flumotion recommendation… you can use cortado so that it doesn’t matter what programs the user has installed on their system.

There’s http://www.videolan.org/vlc for the technology but still without a “television studio” interface, I guess.
You may want to check our service Veodia which is based on the open Standard MPEG-4 / H.264. Plays live or archived on QuickTime, iPods, 3G phones, Apple TV, iPhone, etc!
