If any of the readers of this blog know up-and-coming hackers with a passion for news and journalism, please drop them a line and let them know that this Friday, June 5th, is the last day to enter their ideas for the Knight/Mozilla Innovation Challenges:
- Unlocking Video – How would you bring the best qualities of the web to news video?
- Beyond Comment Threads – How would you create more dynamic spaces for news discussion?
- People-Powered News – How would you improve the way we create and consume news?
This is all about defining the future of news, and good submissions can win a year’s fellowship at one of our news partners (Al Jazeera, the BBC, boston.com, The Guardian and Zeit Online), being paid to hack on open source software in a news context. You can submit a blog post, a napkin sketch, a slidecast, or a semi-functional mockup. It’s up to you.
So if you think you know a way to make news on the web better, or you know someone who does – write it up and send it in.
